Poetry to Get Us to Spring

IdesOfMarch

Yes, we’re sneaking up on the Ides of March, which simply means the time in each month when the moon is full.  This year, it’s March 16th.  The Algonquin tribes call this the Worm Moon because it’s around the time when worms and their castings begin to appear again.  It’s known as the “Sap Moon” for those that tap their maples.

Whatever you call it, this moon means that spring is just around the corner.  Persephone will be released from Hades to make the world blossom and grow again.  And we’ll be very happy to see this particular winter gone!

Hang in there!

P.S.  If you’re the toasting kind of person, here’s a pomegranate martini recipe. 🙂

Rachel's interest in sustainable agriculture and grazing has deep roots in the soil. She's been following that passion around the world, working on an ancient Nabatean farm in the Negev, and with farmers in West Africa's Niger. After returning to the US, Rachel received her M.S. and Ph.D. in agronomy and soil science from the University of Maryland. For her doctoral research, Rachel spent 3 years working with Maryland dairy farmers using management intensive grazing. She then began her work with grass farmers, a source of joy and a journey of discovery.

  1. As I read this it is snowing like H–L and we are suppose to get over two feet here so the “hummer” won’t be leaving for a few more trips around the block.
