Pasture Scout – Connecting Pasture Users With Pasture Owners

PastureScoutLogoWhen drought hit Jen Livsey’s family ranch, it took her Dad 100 phone calls and a month to find a field of cornstalks for their cows just 60 miles from their house. Thinking there had to be a better way, Jen and Ryan Rhoades created Pasture Scout to help pasture users connect with pasture owners.

The service solves a number of problems farmers, ranchers and pasture owners have faced in the past. If you’re looking for pasture or forage, information about availability and price is hard to come by, especially if you have to look outside your region or it’s not something you normally have to do. If you own land or forage, advertising locally or via word of mouth doesn’t give you a broad enough reach so you may not get the best price or lease arrangement. Once you set up your free membership you can search for or list property at no cost and communicate with other members without giving away phone numbers or addresses. There is also an “Auction/Bid” option. For a small fee members can bid on or accept bids for property or forage. Last but not least, Pasture Scout provides a customizable lease template to describe lease terms and minimize risk for both parties.

Here's the "Dashboard" you'll have once you've signed up as a member.

Worried you won’t be able to figure out how to use the service? There’s a video to walk you through how to list your property. It’s like having Jen sitting next to you telling you what to do next.

Check out the video below for an introduction to Pasture Scout and to meet co-founders Jen and Ryan.  Or head on over to the website to get started looking for or listing pasture.

I am the founder, editor and publisher of On Pasture, now retired. My career spanned 40 years of finding creative solutions to problems, and sharing ideas with people that encouraged them to work together and try new things. From figuring out how to teach livestock to eat weeds, to teaching range management to high schoolers, outdoor ed graduation camping trips with fifty 6th graders at a time, building firebreaks with a 130-goat herd, developing the signs and interpretation for the Storm King Fourteen Memorial trail, receiving the Conservation Service Award for my work building the 150-mile mountain bike trail from Grand Junction, Colorado to Moab, Utah...well, the list is long so I'll stop with, I've had a great time and I'm very grateful.
