Screenshot-2014-05-13-12.07.31-300x194Here’s Mayrav’s cookie recipe. She’s Rachel’s sister, and she bakes the best chocolate chip cookies we’ve ever tasted.

2 sticks of butter
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp salt
(1 1/2 – 2 cups of chocolate chips, nuts or some combination of chips and nuts)

Mix all ingredients together. Add about 2 cups of chocolate chips and mix. Spoon out onto greased cookie sheet, leaving room for them to spread. Bake at 325 for about 9-10 minutes, until they are just barely browning around the edges. Cool as much as you have patience for, then enjoy!

For a yummy variation on the original deliciousness, double the vanilla, and use more brown sugar and less white. Then instead of chocolate chips, use white chocolate chips and pecans

About the author

Author and editor emeritus

Rachel's interest in sustainable agriculture and grazing has deep roots in the soil. She's been following that passion around the world, working on an ancient Nabatean farm in the Negev, and with farmers in West Africa's Niger. After returning to the US, Rachel received her M.S. and Ph.D. in agronomy and soil science from the University of Maryland. For her doctoral research, Rachel spent 3 years working with Maryland dairy farmers using management intensive grazing. She then began her work with grass farmers, a source of joy and a journey of discovery.
