You have questions? We have answers.
Let’s start with toilet paper. Hoarding is not the biggest issue here. It’s the supply chain. Turns out, the toilet paper industry is split into two separate markets – commercial and consumer. Now that 75% of us are staying at home, the demand in the consumer market has increased dramatically. In fact, a leading toilet paper manufacturer estimates that the average household needs 40% more toilet paper. But getting that paper to us isn’t easy. Factories can’t switch what they make. And commercial paper isn’t packaged for consumers. It comes in huge rolls that don’t fit on our home dispensers, and is shipped on huge pallets. Here are more details about the toilet paper distribution system, along with the author’s solution – buy takeout with a side of toilet paper from your favorite restaurant.
Now let’s look at another distribution system – getting On Pasture articles onto your computer.
First things first – as you know, On Pasture’s grant funding expired at the end of November, and new grants are very hard to get. In fact, the federal grants we relied on have gone from funding 50% of applicants down to 18%. So we asked you, our readers, if you would support a subscription model to keep On Pasture going. We got so many positive responses that we decided to try.

Next, we’ve got questions from readers.
“I signed up for 3 free articles a month. I read my 3 in March, but now it’s April and it won’t let me read any more. What’s wrong?”
The software tracks how many articles you read in 30 days. So if you registered on March 31, and read all three articles, then the system won’t let you read more until 30 days have passed. The solution? We hope you’ll become a paid subscriber. For just 16¢ a day, you can read all the new articles and the over 2,500 articles in our archives. Plus, paid subscribers can download all the Bonus Materials too!
“Which articles are free?”
The Scoop – like this note from me – is always free. Then you get to choose what you want to read for free. We do it this way because there are visitors who come to On Pasture for answers to just a single question and we want to be as helpful as we can be.
“I think I’m logged in, but I keep getting the “subscribe” or “upgrade” notice.”
First, let’s make sure you’re really logged in. When you’re on the site, look at the right hand side of the black bar at the very top of the page. If it says, Login, you’re not logged in. If it says “My Account” you are logged in. If you continue to have troubles, send us an email.
“Help! I’m stuck on the “My Account” page!
Click on “Home” in the menu bar. That takes you to the On Pasture home page. (I’ve found that lots of folks have never been to this page before. Surprise for me! :-)) Here, when you scroll down, you’ll see all of the week’s articles and, just to the right of them, all the articles for the past 8 weeks in each category.
Why am I blocked from On Pasture?
The most common problem we’ve encountered so far is a subscriber entering an incorrect email address or password and then doing it several times in a row. That will get you blocked by our firewall, which is set up to protect you and On Pasture from the 30,000 hack attempts we get each month. Usually we can tell it’s you, and we unblock you. But if we don’t, please let us know and we’ll get you out of jail free.
If you are paid subscriber and you’re having trouble accessing articles, please do contact us! This is the first time we’ve done something like this and we want to do everything we can to make it work for you.
Please stay safe out there!
Thanks for reading!
