This October 27, I’m joining Tip Hudson and Clay Conry on a free webinar to talk about the work we’re each doing to build community and provide support to graziers. You might know Tip from his podcast “The Art of Range” and Clay from his podcast “Working Cows.”
Tip, Clay, and I are the third day of a four-day webinar series presented by the Colorado Section of the Society for Range Management this month. The list of speakers is impressive, and webinars are scheduled for lunch hours or when the work day is done. So this is an great opportunity to learn and be inspired.
Here’s what we’ve got for you:
On October 20, Dallas Mount of Ranch Management Consultants and a panel of ranchers will talk about how having a support group of fellow graziers has improved their success and their bottom lines. Dallas runs Ranching for Profit Schools and is well-known for his ability to help struggling family ranches become successful businesses. I’m sure you’ll appreciate the insights he shares.
On October 22, the conference focuses on rangeland and rancher mental health. For the lunch session, we’ll spend 90 minutes learning about an app that can help us analyze the health of our pastures, hear from Annie Overlin and Dr. David Augustine about their work on collaborative adaptive rangeland management and their Grazing Calculator, and Don Hijar will cover native seed production. That evening, the focus switches to rancher health to look at mental and emotional stressors and how to work through these challenges, so timely for 2020.
The series wraps up with a “Business Meeting” but don’t be put off by the title. It’s actually an opportunity to hear from Rick Knight, an Aldo Leopold Leadership Fellow and truly inspiring speaker. Rick will be speaking about the “Radical Center” where ranchers and urban communities are working together to protect family ranches and working landscapes so they can continue to contribute to healthy communities they. His talk will remind us of the amazing things that can happen when we come together and help each other.
I hope you’ll join us for this special series. As you can see, I’m pretty excited about all the things I’ll be learning by participating. Registration is free, so head on over to add your name to the list and get the links you’ll need to join up.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
