So much grass … what to do?

May 18, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Free

It seems hard to believe but grass is going to start growing in just a little while, and when it does, it’ll explode. During six short weeks in May and June, your pastures will produce about half of the feed they will grow during the whole grazing season. What are some strategies for dealing with the spring flush?

Granite State Graziers will host a pasture walk on May 18 in Spofford, NH, where we’ll explore the options available to graziers to make the best use of this resource. We’ll also try our hands at identifying pasture plants. We’ll look at how to assess whether pasture is ready to graze, how much residue to leave, and talk about the important decisions that you’re making for the whole rest of the growing season — whether you mean to or not.
