Better Than Kissing A Pig.

Well, we're better than kissing a pig!
Well, we’re better than kissing a pig!

When we decided to create On Pasture, we thought we had a great idea.  Our preliminary survey said that readers were interested in this kind of publication.  So we went for it.  But it’s always good to adjust along the way, so we asked you to tell us how we’re doing by filling out the reader profile survey.  Thanks to your answers, we feel like what we’ve been trying to do is really coming across and that you, our On Pasture Community are responding.

We want to share new ideas and increase producer profitability.  Here’s what readers say:

“We like the innovative and practical advice you bring us from yourself and others that encourage us to break away from starve to death traditional agricultural practices.”

“Practical and application based. Success stories to learn what works and doesn’t work.”

There’s a lot of great research being done to help farmers and ranchers.  With On Pasture we wanted to translate science into information you can put to work.  Your comments tell us we’ve made a good start:

“I really appreciate the broadly accessible writing that takes complicated science and replaces the jargon with understandable/actionable language.”

“Good writing, well curated.”

We also make sure that you get information from your peers:

“I like the profiles of farms and farmers. the stories about problems and how they are solved.”

“New/Fresh ideas, wealth of experience (learning from real examples of failures & successes)”

We respect your time, and that there’s not a lot of it to spare.  We think our job is to get you what you need in short order.  Here’s what you say about how we’re doing:

“The articles are not super long but packed with great info.”

“simple straight forward”

We also try to lighten things up a bit and we’re glad you’re noticing.

“It is greatly informative on a wide range of livestock and pasture conditions, you have a sense of humor also.”

“Well it’s practical and forward thinking and positive and happy , sometimes very funny, but always with a message.”

And last but not least, this is the kind of message that we really like:

“Everything…your humor is great, all articles are right on-target for our needs and interest. Very well done. Thank you for providing such an excellent source of information. I will be paying for a subscription so you can keep on doing this!”

With your support we can keep on keeping on.

Thanks so much for reading!

Kathy and Rachel

P.S.  We also really appreciate all the suggestions for what you’d like to read about, and we’ll be getting to that list over the coming months!

I am the founder, editor and publisher of On Pasture, now retired. My career spanned 40 years of finding creative solutions to problems, and sharing ideas with people that encouraged them to work together and try new things. From figuring out how to teach livestock to eat weeds, to teaching range management to high schoolers, outdoor ed graduation camping trips with fifty 6th graders at a time, building firebreaks with a 130-goat herd, developing the signs and interpretation for the Storm King Fourteen Memorial trail, receiving the Conservation Service Award for my work building the 150-mile mountain bike trail from Grand Junction, Colorado to Moab, Utah...well, the list is long so I'll stop with, I've had a great time and I'm very grateful.
