The year I turned 18 was not a comfortable one between my Dad and me. I was at that stage where I knew everything. Dad was at that stage where he knew how much I didn’t know and, being the worrier he is, he was probably worried about what was ahead of me.
I remember a conversation where Dad was trying to explain to me the importance of learning from the mistakes that others had made, probably because I was about to make a poor choice. My response was, “Dad, you have to let me make my own mistakes!”
It didn’t take me many of my own mistakes to realize the value of Dad’s advice. Now, I ask for lots of advice from lots of people about how to do or NOT do something. Then I add it all up and do a little test to see what works for me.
Today, I realize I’ve made a career out of sharing my own mistakes and successes, as well of those of others, so that we can all do better. That’s what On Pasture is really all about. It’s a place where we can share what worked and what didn’t. And since there are a lot of different ways to get to the same place, you’ll always find something here that you can adapt to your operation.
