Planning for your 2023 Grazing Season

The best way to start your grazing season is to know where you are and where you want to be. So this week, I’m sharing resources that will help you start down the path.

We start with two great articles from Troy Bishopp.

Every year for all the years that On Pasture has published, Troy has provided free grazing charts and all the information you need to develop a grazing plan that will get you through hard times and help you make money. His goal: make a difference in the lives of hard-working graziers.

Sometimes I think he felt like Sisyphus, pushing the rock up the hill over and over and over again. No matter how many grazing charts he passed out, no matter how many people he talked to, he just wasn’t seeing the change he hoped to see. So he tried a new tactic. If everyone was saying that the grazing life is about “lifestyle,” he’d show them a lifestyle full of family, friends, fun times, and profit that all come from a great grazing plan.

He started with this article: What’s a Grazing Decision Really Worth? Then he added to it when he spoke with the Quebec Farmer’s Association. In this second article you’ll fins the video and transcript of the webinar where he speaks frankly about the difficulties, the mistakes he made, and how he chose a different path.
