In the “Olden Days” I remember sitting with my Grandpa at the breakfast table listening to farm market reports on the radio. Â Then we’d do it again at lunch, and sometimes in the evenings too. Â Now there’s a new-fangled way to get the same information: Â Smart Phone Apps!
Here are a couple that are new and getting good reviews. Â If you use these, remember that your constructive feedback matters to the developers. Â If you have problems or would like the app to provide additional information, write a review or send a note to the developer. Â It’s highly likely you’ll get what you want.
Cattle Talk Mobile is a free application for Android smart phones and iPhones.  It  helps cattle producers monitor current auction prices across the United States. This app displays market reports produced by the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service as well as reports produced by local livestock markets. Where available, users can view reports on feeder steers, feeder heifers, feeder bulls, slaughter steers, slaughter cows, and slaughter bulls.  Just added to the app is a tool to help estimate the value of a calf.  Not all states are covered, so before you download it to your phone, check to make sure your state is listed.  (If you’re in Tennessee, you’ll want the Tennessee Cattle Market Mobile App.)
The app gets a 4.7 out of 5 by the 27 reviewers who responded. Â On the plus side folks said it was easy to use, and provided the information they needed. Â On the downside, not all areas are covered, though the developer notes that more states are being added periodically.
