As we head into grazing season, there’s an especially joyful feeling that comes from watching pastures green up. But then, there’s that downer from realizing that much of what we’re seeing are dreaded weeds. This month, we’re going to turn that frown upside down by turning those weeds into forage. Hooray!
Let’s start with some examples of weeds that make great forage.
There are so many more to cover, and I’ll share more in upcoming issues. If you’re in a hurry, you can search On Pasture for your weed. If you don’t find it, drop me an email with its scientific name and I’ll point you in the right direction. The downloadable ebook set also comes with a training recipe for your livestock and information about weeds that are safe for livestock to eat or should be avoided.
Why Graze Weeds?
Because you’ll have more! More forage, more profit, more fun than spraying weeds, more time off…what more could you want?
I’ve got a LOT more on this topic and I’ll be sharing it in upcoming issues. Because I’ve spent so much time learning about animals, figuring out how to train them, and then speaking about it at workshops and conferences, I can guess many of the questions you might have. But, if you’d like to help guide me as I’m putting together this month’s articles, do drop me a line with your concerns, issues, and more. And you can head here for resources and links that will help you get started turning your livestock into weed eaters.
Oh and a Funny! I almost forgot!
